How To Remove Pet Hair From Your Sofa Slipcover?
The reason why hair can stick to the surface of furniture such as sofas is mainly due to static electricity and fiber structure.
When pets move or rub against each other, static electricity is generated between their hair and the surface of sofa slipcovers, causing the hair to be attracted to the surface of the sofa cover. Dry air increases the generation of static electricity. Rough or densely woven fabrics are more likely to allow hairs to become embedded, such as suede or velvet.
For pet owners, removing pet hair from a sofa can seem like an endless battle. However, with the right tools and techniques, you can keep your sofa slipcover clean and hair-free. Here is a step-by-step guide to effectively removing pet hair from your sofa:
1. Use rubber gloves
Slightly wet a rubber glove with water. Gently rub the gloved hand over the surface of the sofa. Pet hair will adhere to the glove. When the glove is covered in hair, rinse the glove and repeat until as much hair is removed as possible.
2. Lint roller or tape
Use a lint roller to roll over the fabric surface of the couch to draw pet hair away. If you don't have a lint roller, wrap the sticky tape (sticky side out) around your hand and slap the couch to catch the hair.
3. Fabric softener solution
Mix a small amount of fabric softener with water using a spray bottle and spray lightly on the surface of the sofa (test on a small inconspicuous area first to make sure it won't stain the sofa). After spraying, gently wipe the couch with a cloth or sponge. Fabric softener helps loosen pet hair, making it easier to remove.
4. Vacuum regularly
Use a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment to vacuum the sofa regularly. This helps remove pet hair and prevents it from penetrating deeper into the fabric. For best results, vacuum at least once a week, and more frequently during pet shedding season.
5. Use a damp cloth
Lightly dampen a microfiber cloth and gently wipe it over the surface of the sofa. The pet hair will stick to the wet cloth, so it will be easy to clean up.
6. Specialized pet hair removal tools
Consider investing in tools specifically designed to remove pet hair, such as a pet hair removal brush or a handheld vacuum cleaner designed for pet owners.
7. Maintaining your pet's coat
Regularly grooming your pet can greatly reduce the amount of hair they shed in your home.
